Called home at 102 + 2 days

Sister Angela JosephSR. ANGELA JOSEPH CALDERONE (ANGELA JOSEPH) entered life eternal 102 years plus 2 days after her first appearance on this earth in Waterbury, Connecticut.  Maria Lucia was the daughter of Joseph and Angela DeCicco Calderone and grew up in a hard-working Italian family. Sr. Angela met the Daughters of the Holy Spirit while attending religious education classes at Mount Carmel parish in her home town. Maria stayed in contact with the Daughters throughout her high school years, and entered the Novitiate traveling to the Motherhouse in Brittany, France for her initial formation period. After her first prfession of vows in 1935, Sr. Angela returned to the United States where she dedicated her professional life to teaching the primary grades in parochial schools in Leominster and Chicopee, Massachusetts, New Haven, Moosup, Plainfield, Hartford and Waterbury, Connecticut.

In 1991 Sister Angela retired to the Provincial House in Putnam and transferred to the Health Care Center in 1996. Even in her last few months the mere mention of her students brought a smile to her face and she was often heard saying: “Tell my students I pray for them…that I love them.”

Sister Angela responded peacefully to her Lord’s final call on the morning of February 20, 2014. 

Calling hours will be at the Provincial House Chapel on  Sunday, February 23rd  from  2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 with a memorial prayer service at 7:15 p.m.

The funeral liturgy will also be at the chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24th at 11:00 and interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery on Providence Street in Putnam.
