Immigration Reform

statue of libertyFrom time to time, we Daughters of the Holy Spirit are called to take a stand on various social issues.  Recently, after study and consultation, and following the example of the bishops of the United States,  we have taken a stand in favor of  just and equitable immigration reform:

We, the Daughters of the Holy Spirit and DHS Associates, join the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious in their call for Comprehensive Immigration Policy Reform in the U.S. With them, we call for legislation that included family reunification, a path to earned legalization, worker protections, and an effective border policy that is humane rather than punitive.

Now that we have accepted this stance, we commit ourselves:

  1. to pray for a successful legislative outcome to this issue of immigration reform;
  2. to positively further the process through letter-writing and phone messages to our legislators whenever this is appropriate;
  3. to be attentive to people in our neighborhoods, towns and cities who are affected by existing immigration policies in our country:
  4. to continue our own education in as many ways as are possible concerning immigration issues;
  5. to pray for and, whenever possible, be present to and positively involved with immigrants in our midst.

We thank our Sisters and Associates of the Justice Committee for all their work in assisting us in our journey with this important issue through which we affirm life. And life to the full, for all.
