A Special Visit

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, has made headlines for the last several weeks because of the impact of the Boka Haram and the Ebola virus. However, living proof that ordinary life does go on in spite of these negative factors, is the special visit to the Provincial House of Sr. Monica Anyi, Daughter of the Holy Spirit and Vice Provincial for the Congregation in Nigeria.

Sister has been on a well-deserved holiday in the US, thanks to the kindness of a dear friend and is spending a few days in the Putnam area before heading back to Bridgton, Maine where the Reverend Innocent Okozi leads the Parish of St. Joseph. Father Okozi is a native of Nigeria and has a sister who is a DHS in Ilora, Nigeria. He appeared last month on our web site with Sr. Jeannine Légère.

When responding to queries about the notorious Boka Haram, Sister’s reply was simply that the community at large is constantly vigilant and that security has been tightened to take all the precautions possible to protect themselves from this notorious group. As far as the Ebola situation is concerned, Monica says she will have to wait to see any major changes that have and continue to occur and which safety measures or restrictions have been introduced during her absence. Like so many others, she prays that the advance of the disease will be curbed in a timely manner. In the meantime, Monica is enjoying summer in New England, spending time with the Sisters and getting acquainted with the many faces of the Atlantic coast.
