PCA Alums Gather and Celebrate

A lovely sun lit Sunday in mid September greeted some 30 women who had attended, graduated from or taught at Putnam Catholic Academy (1928-1977) . The celebration of the experiences of these formative years began with a Sunday liturgy at the Provincial House of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit as the group was welcomed by Sr. Connie Charette and the Rev. Richard Archambault.

The alums came trickling into JD Cooper’s Restaurant, pausing their excited conversations only long enough to stop at the registration table to check in.

Finding their way to tables of their choice, the women, representing classes from 1940 through 1965, warmly hugged old classmates, did a quick assessment of the changes noted and went on to share a multitude of varied and sundried life experiences. There were tears, but mostly joy, laughter and youthful reminiscings.

Roses and certificates of awards were presented to Pauline Morneau, ’54 on her 60th anniversary and to Judith Church, Louise Costello, Marie Desautels, Carlene Landry and Jean Mantolesky ’64 on their 50th anniversary. Carnations were offered to Sister Thérèse Morneau, and Lucille Rhault who represented the class of 1940 and marked 74 years as alumnae.

Adding to the specialness of the occasionn was the presence of the mother/daughter combo: Lucille Rhault ’40 and her daughter Caroline Perron who graduated in 1959.

There were 5 DHS in attendance as well. Sisters Marian St. Marie  Michèle Bisaillon and Priscilla Paradis are alum from the classes of 1965, 57 and ’52 respectively while Connie Charette was a teacher at the Academy in the 70’s . Joining us also for the day was Sr. Marie Pauline Guillemette who has been assisting in the Development Office in the updating of the PCA files and records.

To help support the annual reunion three baskets of goodies were raffled. The lucky winners were Sr. Thérèse Morneau (A chocolate lover’s delight), Claire Bradley (An Italian Feast) and Theresa Humes (Fruit Basket).

The event is sponsored annually through the efforts of the Development Office (Dr. Françoise Gauthier Director) and the kind and generous donations of alumni. The 1915 reunion is scheduled for Sunday, September 13th. Questions concerning this may be addressed directly to the Development Office at 860 928-0891 or devofdhs@yahoo.com.

The photos offer the opportunity to spend some time with those who shared this joyous occasion as members of the PCA community/family.
