The Spirit Will Speak to You

These words from a well-known song became the mantra for the annual Province Day celebration of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam on October 11th.

SistersAs the day unfolded, the Sisters spent time listening together to the Spirit in the Scriptures, in conversations and in the Orientations set forth by the General Chapter (directive body of the Congregation that convenes every 6 years) in April of 2014.

SistersSome of the key issues for the Province at this time and into the future involve how we see the needs of our world today and our response to these given the present realities of the Province; how we enter into meaningful dialogue with the world around us, and how we can, on the personal and province levels, promote the reform a comprehensive immigration policy. We trust that ongoing reflection, conversation, sharing and prayer will indicate the ways of the Spirit.

SistersThe day was highlighted when Sr. Yvette Rainville and Associate Connie Knowles shared their recent experience in the Tucson, Arizona area where they joined other religious to have  the opportunity to witness first-hand US/Mexican border situation. They also were able to speak with border patrol agents, visit courtrooms to witness the 'processing' of undocumented immigrants, walk some of the desert trails with Samaritans who do this trek daily to provide water and other supplies to those who are fleeing violence in their own countries.

As this time of listening to the Word and to our hearts, of sharing what we heard and listening to others share came to a close, the group was left energized and confident that the Spirit will indeed speak in her own creative way if we only learn to open the ears of our hearts and our minds!
