East Coast Associates Annual Meeting

Associates MeetingA beautiful, balmy and bright October morning greeted the assembly of DHS Associates from the Eastern sector of the United States who gathered with many Sisters at the Provincial gym for their annual meeting.

Refreshments and a gleeful time of getting reacquainted immediately preceded a lovely and touching tribute to MARY MAZUR, our 102 year old member who was called home to the Lord on August 23rd of this year. Prayers of gratitude for the gift Mary was to the Associates and the DHS Community set the tone for a most inspiring and uplifting day.

A simple rite accompanied the installation of MARY LYNNE CATSAM as the new co-director of our program. She replaces DIANE GIROUX and will work hand in hand with DR. DIANE SUMMA. who presented Mary Lynne the traditional "service apron" symbolizing her job description for the next 3 years.

The service tone having been set, Sr. CONNIE CHARETTE then led the group in a participative presentation on the theme: Living a Mary Heart in a Martha World. Sister used Scripture readings, the DHS Rule of Life, personality comparison techniques, very lively group discussions and input to prove and to conclude that balance is the key if we are to live out God's plan for each one of us and that in reality "we will have Mary and Martha moments in our relationships with others and with our God.  We do not have to choose. They are one.

A delicious catered lunch was followed by an enlightening sharing by CONNIE KNOWLES who recently attended an Immigration Immersion Trip in Tucson, Arizona during which she and Sr. YVETE RAINVILLE had the occasion to experience first-hand the injustice imposed upon those would-be immigrants who get caught up in an unjust and profit-making system. The good news is that there are many wonderful people who are diligently working 24/7 to correct these wrongs. Connie underlined the fact that the Daughters and Associates have a corporate stance against these unfair practices and that the first important step is to pray for strength and perseverance in resolving this basic violation of human dignity.

A brief business meeting followed with PEG DUNLOP presenting her treasurer's report and DIANE SUMMA reminding everyone that the spring retreat will be held on May 16 and 17th and that there will be a meet and greet of three new Associate candidates at the Provincial House on November 2nd.
Congratulations and kudos were offered to PEG DUNLOP AND FRAN MONICK who are celebrating their 25th year as Associates.
A final prayer by Sr. Connie brought the annual meeting  to closure and blessed the participants as they headed home to Putnam, Bridgeport, Pittsfield, Cape Cod, Worcester and Providence.
