Free in the Lord

SISTER JUDITH KENHART, DHS found her eternal freedom in her Lord early on the morning of November 20th after a brief illness.

Judith was born on August 27, 1937 the only daughter to Stephen and Joan Kenhart. She attended Putnam Catholic Academy where she grew to know the Daughters of the Holy Spirit very well and entered the Congregation in 1955, making first profession at the Provincial House in Putnam in 1957, taking the religious name of Sr. Stephen of the Passion.

Judith had earned degrees from the former Diocesan Sisters’ College, and advanced degrees from Boston College and Weston School of Theology.  She utilized her skills as an educator at her alma mater Putnam Catholic Academy and then at Cathedral High School in Bridgeport, CT.  She also taught summer sessions at Annhurst College and served as assistant to the President of Annhurst for a brief period.  Her love of people and her broad knowledge helped her in her work for Catholic Charities, in her position as coordinator of the Women’s Educational and Industrial Union in Boston and as chaplain at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Sister joined the Provincial House Community in 2005 where she remained until her passing.

She is survived by an uncle from California and an aunt from Florida, several cousins and a dear friend, Linda Lamoureux of Killingly, CT.

Judith will be waked at the Provincial House chapel on Friday, November 21st from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:15.  Her funeral mass will be celebrated also at the Provincial House chapel on Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m., and she will be enterred with the DHS who have preceded her to the Lord in St. Mary of the Visitation Cemetery Provindence Street in Putnam, CT.
