At rest in the Lord

Sister AliceSister ALICE CHICOINE, DHS retired to the house of her Lord on the evening of December 17th after a short stay at the Holy Spirit Health Care Center in Putnam.

Alice Simone Chicoine was born on July 3, 1921 in Vermont to the late William and Annette Chicoine. At 17 years of age she entered the Congregation of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit and pronounced her first vows in 1943, taking the religious name of Sr. Joseph de St. André.

Sister served in a variety of ministries throughout her religious life: nurse, teacher of English as a second language, pastoral work in Connecticut and Virginia, migrant worker ministry and pastoral assistant in Alabama and Vermont. She joined the retirement community at the Provincial House in 2000 where she participated in a multitude of happenings and activities.

Alice is survived by two brothers, Bill and Edmond and two sisters, Theresa and Claire as well as by several nieces and nephews scattered in different states.

Calling hours will be on Friday, December 19 from 6-8 pm with a prayer service at 7:15.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, the 20th, also at the Provincial House Chapel at 11 a.m. with internment at St. Mary of the Visitation Cemetery on Providence Street in Putnam. Friends of the DHS are cordially welcomed to join us as we honor Sister Chicoine’s religious life and accomplishments.
