We Are One Family Under God

posterThe plight of migrants in the United States is deplorable. In an effort to bring attention to the problem and hence, reform, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated the week of January 4th to January 10th National Migration Week with the theme “We Are One FamilyUnder God”.  We Daughters of the Holy Spirit, in line with our stance in support of migration reform, commemorate this week. Our Chapter Orientations call us to “develop a heart open to the world…to listen to its cries and spot its brokenness.” Together we listen to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit as to how we answer this call. We pray in words penned by the U.S. Bishops.

Remembering that the Holy Family fled violence and lived for a time as refugees,
We ask that you protect all refugee families fleeing persecution, and provide them a place of safety and omfort.

For children who are making perilous journeys,
often alone and without the protection of loved ones,
We ask that you reunite them with their families,
and protect them from violence on the journey.

For all migrants, that they not feel compelled to migrate
but have opportunities in their homeland
where they can thrive and live fully human lives.

Open our hearts so that we may provide hospitality
for those who come in search of refuge.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever.   Amen
