Celebrating “US”  Week at the PH

Celebrating “US”  Week at the PH

The week of May 11-15 was dedicated to celebrating “us” here at the Provincial House in Putnam.
Why?  All year long, we all, staff and Sisters, contribute to making the PH a very special place to be, to live and to work. So, these few days serve to remind us that this is a special place because all of us together make it that way.

In order to show our appreciation for one another, Claudia Bettez, recreation director, coordinated daily activities that would underline our specialness: Sr. Marie Pauline Guillemette and her one-person band entertained on Monday afternoon, while a hot and sultry Tuesday afternoon gathered staff and Sisters in the dining room for ice cream scoops and a sing along with Jim Harkins, professional guitarist who was also joined by Ron Bettez. This was also “wear jeans to work day” for staff. Wednesday was partners BINGO day and the attendees paired up so that when one partner won a game both were awarded a prize. Also on Wedenesday those individuals who volunteer on a weekly basis to assist the Sisters were recognized, thanked and offered a bouquet of spring flowers.

A photo id contest was held during the week and participants were asked to go around this very large building to find the original home of each photo. At lunch time on Thursday the winners were announced and awarded their prizes.

Friday brought the week’s activities to closure and staff was asked to wear a sign or symbol of their favorite charity and share that information with the Sisters.

The event was not only fun but a wonderful opportunity to get to know one another better and to say those special thank you’s that often go unsaid. As one Sister stated as she thought about the week: “This was fun.  We need to do something like this at least once a year.  We all deserve recognition for one thing or another, and when we do it together, it makes it so much more meaningful.”
