Pentecost 2015: Spirit-driven people

Holy SpiritFor the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, Pentecost Sunday is the main feast of the Congregation. Each year it affords us the opportunity to enter anew into the mystery of the Trinity and to focus on the on-going activities of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our world today.  So it is in the attitude of recognizing the role of the Spirit in us as we strive to transform ourselves and our world into loving and compassionate people that we invite you to join us in reflecting on the wondrous impact the Spirit will have if we allow this divine breath of fire to be set free and to lead us in our daily lives. So we recall the words from Acts 2:1-4 and we pray:

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

Let us picture the upper room filled with Jesus’ family and friends. It is not a joyful scene. Everyone is worried, nervously pacing or fidgeting. Some people are in animated discussion. All are considering what to do next. Do they stay? Do they go elsewhere? And then it happens! Wind rushes in and a flame of fire appears over each person’s head. The mood quickly changes. Fear is gone; there is much excitement in the group. Filled with the Holy Spirit, the disciples, speaking in different languages, rush out to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

Holy SpiritNow we ponder for a few moments what has just happened in the upper room. What does this event say to us? What are those moments in our life when the Holy Spirit has clearly spoken to us? How did we respond? How can each of us be the “voice of the Spirit” and announce the Good News of God’s Love?

In our context as Daughters of the Holy Spirit, our queries find guidance and direction in the Orientations from our 2014 General Chapter and we joyfully share these with all of you:

“Let yourself be led by the Spirit of Light
Be his voice and bring his joy
To the ends of the earth
Announce the Good News of his Love.”
May we all be receptive to cultivating the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives as we go forth to live and to share the Good News.
May we truly dare to become Pentecost, Spirit-driven people!
It would be exciting to hear your answers to some of the above questions. To enter into dialogue with us simply e mail: marianst.marie@gmail.com  We look forward to sharing with you.
