DHS Associates Focus on Non-Violence

It was a gorgeous, made to order fall day that brought a large delegation of DHS Associates from the East Coast together at the Provincial House gymnatorium for their annual assembly.

Their guests, Sisters and Consecrated Seculars, responded to the Associates’ invitation to join them to welcome the occasion to participate in a reflective/active presentation by Nancy Small on “Seizing the NonViolent Moments”.

Hugs, warm greetings and coffee and were perfect starters for a day of sharing Scripture, personal experiences, prayer, a meditative glance at DHS foundational writings as they relate to the theme, and projections for making non-violent choices into and for the future.

Table and group conversations were guided by key questions such as

  • how does this help us practice nonviolence in our personal lives
  • how does this help us practice and live nonviolence as a community
  • and how is society transformed by practicing nonviolence?

A concluding prayer underlining how a change of heart (stone into flesh) is essential to growing into nonviolent and just persons brought the presentation to a close. Loud applause clearly indicated across the board satisfaction with this most meaningful session.

A business meeting for the Associates followed and the busy yet fulfilling day drew to a close amid a barrage of positive comments on the blessings of a day well spent.

Any questions or comments about this meeting and presentation may be addressed to Dr Diane Summa, Associate Coordinator East Coast at dts1@att.net.
