The DHS Ongoing Support for Catholic Schools

As clearly illustrated in the History of our Province Part VI, the DHS connection to education in the USA goes back to the early beginnings of the Province and to the origin of the Congregation itself 310 years ago.

Late January and early February have for many years now become the traditional time of year for Catholic Schools to flaunt their wares and to shout gently to all Americans the many advantages that a Catholic School education provides for our youngsters at all levels.

As part of their annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week, the principal of St. Joseph School in North Grosvenordale, CT, Putnam’s next door neighbors, along with the pastor of the parish accompanied 28 members of their school choir and their director to the Provincial House on Monday morning to entertain the DHS in residence and staff with their lovely harmonious singing.

The enthusiastic applause and the  chatter of the socialization that followed the presentation were an obvious expression of the appreciation the Sisters had for their young visitors. Some of the lively comments from Sisters in attendance included: “They were great, weren’t they?”, “I could have listened to them for another hour or so”, “When are they coming back?” and “It was so good to be in touch with school children once again”.

As the students left they did promise to return at some point during Lent to join the Sisters in a special presentation of the Stations of the Cross. The Daughters are most grateful to the St. Joseph School Community for sharing their time, talent and love with them all and wish them continued growth and success.
