DHS Join in Diocesan Celebration of Consecrated Life

consecrated lifeAn absolutely made-to-order last Sunday in January found a number of DHS at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich to participate in a diocesan-wide celebration of women and men religious and Consecrated Seculars.

The event combined the conclusion of the Year of Consecrated Life with the beginning of the Year of Mercy, and in the process also honored those religious who are celebrating milestones in their years of service to the Church.

The festive liturgy presided over by Bishop Coté incorporated the renewal of vows by members of Religious Congregations, of Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. And featured guest homilist Rev. Jack Rathschmidt, O.F.M. Cap.   The music and hymns underscored the themes of love, joy in service and mercy.

The liturgical celebration was immediately followed by a dinner at the Holiday Inn Express in Norwich where everyone had the opportunity to become acquainted with the various congregations in attendance.  The Daughters of the Holy Spirit are only one of 31 congregations, institutes and associations of consecrated life hosted by the Diocese of Norwich.  Sisters Marion Pepin, Priscilla Blais  and Thérèse Vanasse of Putnam and Moosup  who are celebrating their jubilees this year were among those recognized as part of the day’s events.

The following photos offer an idea of the camaraderie the celebration fostered among a plethora of consecrated women and men who responded to this special call to gather to ‘awaken the world’ of the Diocese on this late January afternoon.
