A Mutual Recognition Moment

A quick perusal of any modern dictionary of the English language will allow us to find the definition of the word ‘recognition’ as the “acknowledgement of achievement, service, merit, etc.”. Indeed the perfect word to describe the simple and yet poignant celebration that took place at the Provincial House on Valentine’s Day.

It has become an annual tradition to gather the Sisters at mass and for a noon meal in mid winter to say thank you for the numerous services the members of the Provincial House Community render to and for one another all year long: folding dining room napkins each morning after breakfast, transporting Sisters to appointments near and far, running errands, preparing guest rooms and linen, subsituting as receptionists, prepping the chapel for mass and sundried services, mending, word processing, reading to the vision impaired and the list goes on and on.

This year’s celebration added a surprise component: saying thank you to the two Sisters who have been serving as Assistants to the Community Coordinator for the past several years…Sisters Marion Pepin and Michèle Bisaillon. The Sisters in the community were elated to be able to participate in conferring their special thanks and offering the honorees a simple token of appreciation. The recipients, obviously touched by the gesture, responded with smiles, and words of gratitude. The photos speak clearly to the joyous mood that prevailed in the dining room as each one recognized the goodness of the Lord in their Sisters’ expression of love as together they shared a moment of mutual/reciprocal recognition.
