Sr. Flore Trudeau (Helene De St. Joseph), DHS enters life eternal

Sister Flore TrudeauOn the evening of Palm Sunday, FLORE PAULINE TRUDEAU, DHS welcomed the Lord’s final call and followed it into eternal life.

Sister Flore was born on February 15, 1925 to Louis and Helen (Therriault) Trudeau in Graniteville, Vermont. She entered the novitiate of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in 1944 and professed her religious vows on August 20, 1945 at the Provincial House in Putnam, CT.

From 1945-1991 Sr. Trudeau, having earned degrees from Sisters Diocesan College in Woodstock, CT and St. Michael’s College in Winooski, VT (MA in Theology) dedicated her career to educating the young as teacher and administrator in DHS administered parochial schools in her native Vermont, as well as in New York State, Connecticut, and California. She moved back to Putnam in 1991 and served as Transportation Coordinator at the Provincial House for the following 10 years. In 2001 Flore retired from that position and lived in the Notre Dame Community in Putnam until changes in her health led her to move to the Provincial House in 2007. Further health declines saw Sister transfer to the Holy Spirit Health Care Center 4 years later in 2011 where she resided at the time of her passing from this life on March 20th, 2016.

In addition to having been totally dedicated to children in the classroom and to her fellow teachers, Sister loved to chat and was a superb story teller, particularly stories involving humorous situations she had encountered along the way. Her sense of humor and her mental acuity certainly left an indelible mark on so many.

Visiting hours and a special prayer service were held at the Provincial House Chapel on Tuesday evening, March 22 for Sister’s DHS family, her immediate family (3 brothers and 3 sisters) and friends and acquaintances. A funeral mass on Wednesday of Holy Week was celebrated at the same chapel at 11:a.m. and Sister Flore was laid to rest at St. Mary of the Visitation Cemetery on Providence Street in Putnam.

More information about Sister may be obtained by contacting the Provincial Secretary at 860 928-0891 ext. 118. Memorial donations may be offered to the DHS Retirement Fund in lieu of flowers. These may be sent to the Development Office at 72 Church Street Putnam, CT 06260

May Sister rest in Peace as she enters Life Eternal as we live the Paschal Mystery to the fullest!
