2016 Jubilee Celebration

Having chosen the theme “All is Gift” 8 women, 6 Apostolic Religious and 2 Associates celebrated their years of service to the Congregation, to the Church and to their respective communities on the weekend of June 10-12.

The scene was set early on Friday when author Nancy Small spent the first part of the day sharing on the topic of gifts received and responsibilites and responses expected from those who have received.

Saturday found the jubilarians enjoying dinner at a local restaurant as guests of the Provincial Team, a gathering that refreshed body, soul and spirits and was a forerunner of the Sunday festive celebration.

The Provincial House Chapel was the venue for the meaningful liturgy celebrated by Rev. Edward Dempsey joined by homilist the Very Rev. Laurence LaPointe and members of the local clergy, chaplaincy and a missionary priest who is Nigerian by nationality but who is serving in a Maine parish at this time and who has a sister who is a Daughter of the Holy Spirit.

The liturgy provided opportunities for the renewal of vows and covenants by the jubilarians, an offertory procession in which gifts representing important phases of the participants’ years of service were explained and offered, joyful sharing of wishes of peace and featured the skilled voices of the jubilee choir and accompanists under the able direction of Sr. Irene Fortier. The jubilarians were also greeted by a congratulatory message from the General Council of the Congregation who stated: “We join you in singing the praises of God on this occasion of your jubilee, the gift of your consecration to the Spirit of love.”

A resounding chorus of “O Jour le Plus Beau de ma Vie”, the traditional profession song for the DHS USA, brought the liturgy to a close and led the procession to the various reception areas where jubilarians gathered for a  simple repast and continued celebration and thanksgiving with families and friends. The Knights of Columbus from local Council 64 proudly went from room to room to distribute certificates of honor to each jubilarian offering them heartfelt congratulations and gratitude.

Congratulations and thanks Jeannine, Marion, Pat, Priscilla, Thérèse, María, Virginia, and Patricia. “As you recall this day in thanksgiving, may its memories continue to be a source of joy and inner strength to live the present moments of your lives and hope for a future that lies in God’s hand. May the Lord bless you and all those dear to you, every day of your lives.” (message from the General Council)
