World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

CreationPope Francis has called a “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation” for the purpose of encouraging people around the world to pray for our common home. In his encyclical  “Laudato Si” the Pope calls on “every person living on this planet to care for our shared earth.”

Pope Francis calls us to observe this day to “reaffirm our personal vocation to be stewards of creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and to implore God’s help for the protection of creation, as well as pardon for the sins committed against the world in which we live.”

CreationThere are a number of ways to delve into this day of awareness of our creation.  Think of taking a walk in your yard or in a local park.  Notice God’s handiwork all about you with the flowers, trees, bushes, living creatures…  Send your thanks out to the Creator in prayer.

Creation“Holy One, in every moment we live in your expansive love and your tender embrace. All around us we behold your presence.  All around us and within us life emerges, fresh and new, vital, sparked with zest. May we continue to expand our lives and our living accepting the challenge and the responsibility to be co-creators with you. May we embrace all the gifts you have given and use them well, in love and for love. May we use our gifts with wisdom and with courage, celebrating the connectedness and seeing the expressions of your love everywhere. May our actions and attitudes generate unity and our love bring us to communion.” (Radical Amazement by Judy Cannato)
