Lenten Reflection

Lent is passing by quickly. With the arrival of Ash Wednesday we set off fervently on the journey through this sacred season. But now at the Lenten mid-point is that fervor still as strong as at the beginning, or have we slackened off a bit?  It would be worthwhile now to stop and reflect upon our following of Jesus as he bears his cross. The consequence of following Jesus is to carry our own cross for ourselves, for others, for the world.  From time to time we need to reflect on the daily crosses we carry. As we ponder these, where do we find ourselves?

crossTHE CROSS OF DISCIPLESHIP

These are our struggles within ourselves, with others, and with the world. There are struggles with inertia, with holding back;  it is so easy to take the less difficult path, to follow the crowd.

THE CROSS OF FIDELITY

How true are we to our inner vocation, to unused talent, to making decisions, and to listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit?

THE CROSS OF GROWTH

crossesHow dedicated are we to the progress of our pilgrim journey, to life’s uphill climb? How well do we continue trying after failure?

THE CROSS OF CARING

In this Year of Mercy, how do we listen to others in their need?  How do we show compassion and mercy?

THE CROSS OF OUR TIMES

In our small way how can we help to diminish
poverty and fear,
war and terrorism,
racism and violence,
greed and corruption?
We seek God’s loving help as we ponder our following of the cross.
May God, Creator bless us.
May God, Redeemer, heal us.
May the Holy Spirit enlighten us and give us all we need
as we continue through this holy season of Lent toward the beauty and mystery
of the Paschal Mystery.
