Holy Spirit Spotted on Mt. Kilimanjaro

Mt. Kilimanjaro

Breaking news just released by the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam.

Thanks to the quick thinking and willingness of Jared Spieker, nephew of Gary Spieker, administrator at our Retirement Center, the Holy Spirit now rests at the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro at Uhuru Peak in Tanzania, on the eastern coast of Africa.

Actually a few weeks before his planned expedition Jared asked his uncle if the Sisters might have something they would like to locate on the mountain top.  It was a no-brainer...a symbol or representation of the Holy Spirit that is the official emblem of the Congregation.  So it was that the Sisters chose an appropriately sized statue of the Holy Spirit (dove) and inserted it in weatherproofed packaging and confided it to the care of the young man who has already traveled to many parts of the world including South East Asia, Central and South America, and the Pacific Islands.

Jared’s hike from the base camp that serves the many routes to the top lasted from October 16 through the 22nd.  He actually reached the summit on the 20th and found a permanent niche in which to place his treasure for the Daughters.

The photo clearly reveals this mountain climbers joy and satisfaction at having achieved his goal.  His parents, Larry and Deb, cheered their son on throughout his journey and were thrilled to welcome him back home to Wyoming to share the details of his latest adventure especially how he carried the Holy Spirit to Mt. Kilimanjaro.

THANKS AND KUDOS TO YOU, JARED, FROM THE DHS. MAY THE HOLY SPIRIT ALWAYS ACCOMPANY YOU ON ALL YOUR FUTURE ADVENTURES!
