Our Lenten Journey Continues

taizAs we head into the homestretch of our Lenten Journey, the Daughters of the Holy Spirit invited our neighbors, friends and local acquaintances to join the Sisters for a TAIZÉ prayer experience early Sunday evening.

After a warm welcome and explanation of the purpose and style of our common prayer, the group readily entered into an attitude of openness and reflection as the chorale and musicians led us in asking the Spirit to pray in us: “Come and pray in us, Holy Spirit.  Come and pray in us.  Come and visit us, Holy Spirit.  Holy Spirit, come.”  (Taizé Community 1991)

The tone having been set, the participants listened to a call to worship and united their hearts and minds in requesting that the God of justice, peace and righteousness be with us all as we seek to be open to and  follow the path that brings us ever closer to others.

taizSung prayers that God might listen to us, time for silent reflection and the joint profession of our Lenten Creed expressing our belief in the love of God for us, in the divinity of Christ, in the many gifts of God to us, in the purpose of our eatthly journey and in our call to love others as God loves us, followed, and the group once again responded with the musical repetition and assertion that “The Lord is My Light”. (Taizé Community 1991)

Prayers of intercession for God’s ongoing assistance as we strive to be light for others, makers of peace, speakers of truth bearers of courage and hope for our world responded clearly to the preceding affirmation.

The praying in common of the Our Father and the singing of “Dona Nobis Pacem” led to the concluding rite and final blessing of the group who stood, held hands and formed a circle of unity. And we invite you to join us in praying these final words with us as we continue onward towards the end of our Lenten preparation and eagerly await the unique moment of Easter. So we pray:

Give us peace, God, peace for all, like a river running freely.
God of nearness, God of life, you are with us we rejoice.
Set us free, God, from mindless ways; guide us in pursuing good.
You renew us with great love; God among us, this our joy.
Be our breath, God, deep and pure; feed our hunger for your truth.
Maranatha, come to us with your healing gift of peace.  (Gregory Norbet)
