In Memoriam: Sr. Suzanne Roy, DHS

Sister Suzanne RoyIt was on July 10th that Sister SUZANNE ROY(Rita Claire) took her place in the angelic choir line and greeted her Lord up close and personally as she accepted to sing his praises eternally.

Suzanne entered the world in Springfield, MA on March 27, 1936, gracing the life of her parents Leo and Rita (Poiré) Roy. At 18 years of age she entered the Congregation of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit and professed her first vows on August 23, 1957, three years later. 

After profession she attended the Woodstock campus of Diocesan Sisters College and joined the teaching profession missioning in New Haven, Fairfield and New London, CT. From the classroom she pursued her advanced degree in the arts and obtained an MFA.  She immediately accepted the assignment of Professor of Fine Arts at the order’s Annhurst College in Woodstock, CT. She served in that position until 1980 when she accepted a similar position at Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, MA. Four years lates, Sister redirected her artistic talents to the world of retail and worked for several big name companies in their clothing lines. By 1997 the Province requested her services as Director of Financial Development. She remained in this office until her retirement in 2008.

Her post retirement days were filled with her dedication to St. Louis Parish in nearby Webster, MA as she brought her creative/artistic skills to parish youth ministry. Sr. Roy and her long-time companion Sr. Muriel Lusignan, gave themselves tirelessly to parish involvement that they both loved and appreciated so much.

Sister Suzanne’s health quickly declined and she fully retired to the Provincial House in Putnam in 2012 and transferred to the newly established community at St. Joseph’s Living Center in Windham, CT in July of 2016.

A wake and prayer service in Sister’s honor will be held at the Provincial House Chapel on Thursday, July 13 from 6-8 p.m with the prayer beginning at 7:15, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on the following day at 11:a.m. She will be laid to rest in the DHS section of St. Mary of the Visitation Cemetery on Providence St. in Putnam.
