Sister Rita QuintalSr. Rita Marie Quintal, DHS, entered life eternal on Monday, September 11th  at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham, CT.               Born Marie Eva Rita Quintal in Lawrence, MA on August 16, 1922, she was the daughter of Narcisse and Bertha (Bolduc) Quintal.  She entered religious life in Putnam, CT at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in 1938 and made her religious profession in 1943.

She taught in elementary schools administered by the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Massachusetts, Upstate New York, Connecticut and Vermont from 1943-1976. In 1977 she followed her God-given talents and took a 2-year course in Fashion & Design in Boston in preparation for teaching sewing. She did not delay to put her newly earned degree to use as she immediately began to offer sewing classes in the Springfield, MA area and then in the greater Waterbury, CT region at the Casa Cristo Rey.  In 1979 she returned to Boston for some refresher and update courses and from 1980-84 she worked at various ministries at St. Joseph Guest House in New Haven, in Upstate, NY and in Woodstock, CT. In 1985 she returned to her home town of Lawrence, MA where she worked as a homemaker for Kelly Healthcare  Shortely thereafter, she returned to her career as a seamstress and spent the next 12 years employed by Ben’s Uniforms of Amesbury, MA, O’Donnell’s in Newport, RI and So-Fro Fabric in Middletown, RI. At that time she wanted to return to Putnam and found employment working as a Nurse’s Aid.  She also continued to offer sewing lessons on a part time basis. In January of 2014 she retired to the Provincial House and in August of 2016 she transferred to St. Joseph Living Center in Windham, CT. where she remained until she quickly and quietly slipped into the arms of her Lord.

While Sister was from a family of 15 children, she is survived by only 1 sister—Mrs. Theresa Avard of N.H.

Calling hours at the Provincial House will be on Thursday September 14th  from 6-8 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:15.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15th at the Provincial House chapel at 11 A.M.  Burial will be in the DHS plot of St. Mary of the Visitation Cemetery on Providence St. in Putnam.
