Sr. Edna Caouette (Armand Thérèse), DHS, Enters Eternal Life

Sr. Edna CaouetteIt was after a prolonged period of preparation for new life that Sister Edna crossed into eternal life on Sunday, October 29th.

Mary Blanche Edna Caouette graced the world with her presence on January 3, 1930 and brought special brightness and joy to her already close knit French Canadian family who resided in Bristol, CT at the time.

The young child attended Catholic schools and soon realized that she wanted to follow in the footsteps of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit she had learned to love. Edna entered the novitiate in 1949 and professed her first vows as a DHS on August 23rd, 1950 in the Mother House of the Congregation in St. Brieuc, France.

Soon after profession Sister returned to the USA and began her life long career of teaching. She served many Catholic School communities at various grade levels in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and Connecticut, specializing in early childhood education.

Edna’s social personality led her to become involved with various outside groups and parish work.  She particularly enjoyed visiting the elderly and homebound after she retired from the classroom. Sister Caouette also served as admissions clerk in Fanny Allen Hospital in Winooski, Vermont and as assistant to the provincial treasurer at the Provincial House in Putnam.

Sister always looked forward to visits with her family and friends, attending social presentations of all kinds, meeting new folks at senior citizens’ gatherings and was particularly fond of musical events especially when these included sing alongs.

As Edna’s health declined she moved to the Provincial House Health Care Center and, in July of 2016, to St. Joseph Living Center in Windham, CT where she resided at the time of her passing into new life.

A gathering of family and friends will take place at the Holy Spirit Provincial House on Thursday, November 2nd from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service in Sister’s honor at 7:15. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the same chapel on Friday, November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. and Edna will be laid to rest in St. Mary of the Visitation Cemetery on Providence Street in Putnam. All who knew Sister are invited to attend these commemorative services and share their memories with the DHS Family.

Anyone wishing to remember Sister Edna with a memorial gift may send a donation to the DHS Retirement Fund atttention of the Office of Development at 72 Church Street Putnam, CT 06260.
