Watch and Wait....An Advent Reflection

advent wreathJesus said to his disciples:  “Be watchful!  Be alert!”
You do not know when the time will come.”…
What I say to you, I say to all:  WATCH!”

The gospel for the beginning of Advent calls us to be alert. Be alert to the glimpses of light that penetrate the darkness in this Advent season In the midst of a world full of turmoil, violence, dissension, greed, and selfishness, we can glimpse the shining, redeeming light of the Savior. May we prepare ourselves to be ever alert to the world’s needs, that we be bearers of the light bringing hope-filled glimpses to others.

Let us:
Speak God’s truth,
Spread God’s  justice and peace,
Bring love and goodness to our world.
May we take this blessed time of Advent to be more aware of our God-given gifts that we share them gladly and boldly.

In the words of Ted Loder   (My Heart in my Mouth)
Hidden God
Wherever you are
in your own kind of space
We  watch and wait for you
to  startle us to wakeful newness
in this Advent season.
Come and thrust into us
The spirit of daring and courage
to make flesh on earth
a bit of the Kingdom of heaven.
