DHS Celebrate Consecrated Life

Consecrated life celebrationAs the Church launched its annual week of celebration of those men and women who have consecrated their lives to the service of the Lord through specific congregations or institutes, several members of the Putnam Province of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit journeyed to St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich in response to the formal invitation of Bishop Coté.

The jubilant sounds of renewing acquaintances, meeting new folks and the celebratory feeling instantaneously focused in on the purpose of this gathering as the choir broke into the entrance hymn: ”Called to Labor in God’s Vineyard”.

After the homily, Bishop Coté reminded the participants that “these consecrated lives give witness to the love of God at work in the world and enrich the Church of Christ”. He then invited all consecrated persons present to stand and renew their profession of the evangelical counsels. The lay faithful then responded with a common prayer of gratitude and of blessing for those who had just renewed their vows.

As the final lyrics of “Christ is the World’s Light” resounded through the cathedral, the participants wound their way to the reception hall for the breaking of bread, convivial conversation and, of course, the random awarding of door prizes.

Honored in the course of this celebration were those religious celebrating anniversary or jubilee years in 2018. Anthony Lemire, SCMC, Sr. Fernande Marie Laliberté, Sr. Michèle Bisaillon, Sr. Jacqueline Robillard and Sr. Claudette Huot.

Jubilee Sunday at the Putnam Provincial House will be on June 10th at 2 p.m.
