Praying With Taize

In a gathering that has become somewhat of a tradition in our Province, the Daughters of the Holy Spirit sponsored a mid-lenten Taizé prayer expeerience on the evening of the 4th Sunday of Lent, 2018.

Sisters and friends from the greater Putnam area met in the gymnatorium at our Provincial House for a 6 pm start.

Sr. Michèle Bisaillon called the group to prayer and the choir and their piano and flute accompanimists led the assembly in a prayerful, meditative canon for 4 voices Come and Pray in Us/Vieni, Spirito Creatore, and invited everyone present to enter directly into the spirit of the evening.

Following the Taizé model, there was time for common prayer, personal prayer, sung responses to readings and prayer, prayers of general intercessions, the proclamation by all in unison of the Lenten Creed, borrowed from Traveling to Easter with Jesus as our Guide as found on the website of Patmos Abbey.  The formation of a Circle of Prayer for the final benediction highlighted and closed this powerful and inspiring experience that led several people to exclaim spontaneously: “Let’s do this again soon; there is such good energy among us.”

We invite you to share a part of this prayer with us now as our journey to Easter continues:

Go now with your trust in the Good Shepherd and let us love,
not just in words, but in truth and action.  Believe in the name
of Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he has taught us.
And may God be at your side, even in valleys of death.
May Christ Jesus be the cornerstone of your life.
And may the Holy Spirit abide in you and tend you with love
and mercy all the days of your life.
We go in peace to love and serve our God,
in the name of Christ.  Amen.
