Jubilee 2018:  In Gratitude and Joy

The tone for the 2018 jubilee celebration became immediately apparent as the 12 Sister Jubilarians processed down the center aisle joyously singing the traditional profession hymn "On the most beuatiful day of my life". The Knights of Columbus honor guard led the way as digital flashes conserved the moment for posterity.

Greetings from the Provincial Sr Gertrude, herself a jubilarian of 50 years, welcomed the large crowd that filled the Provincial House Chapel on a lovely early June Sunday afternoon.

Readings presented by the jubilarians were interspersed by responses and psalms by guest cantor Patty Johnson accompanied by flautist Priscilla Dowd and organist Tom Gouin. The main celebrant was the Very Rev. Laurence LaPointe, honorary DHS, and concelebrant and homilist was Rev. Edward Dempsey.

At the invitation of the celebrant, the Jubilarian Sisters and Consecrated Seculars, renewed their vows which were accepted and recognized by the loud applause of the congregation.

Symbolic gifts of a Spirit painting, roses, DHS Rule of Life, SB Sta;tutes, a statue of our Lady of the Holy Spirit and bread and wine were presented by jubilarians at the offertory. A shared gesture of peace added to the spirit of camaraderie that was sensed oozing from the chapel.

The communion meditation hymn reminded one and all that for these jubilarians who have given a total of 860 years to the service of God's people, the Lord continues to be the center of their lives.

The final blessing and a few words of congratulations, gratitude and best wishes from our celebrant led the jubilarians up the aisle to a resounding rendition of "Take the Word of God With You" and a loud round of approving applause once again from the many guests in attendance. Refreshments, hugs, greetings and warm conversation, along with the conferral of certificates of honor from the Knights of Columbus to each jubilarian, culminated the celebration and left one and all with sentiments of exhilaration, freshness and deep feelings of thanksgiving for the wonders of the Spirit's work among us in a time and place where gratitude and joy abound.

Missing from the group photo is Sr Anita Lambert (65 years) who entered eternal life earlier this month and Sr. Mary Lou Smith  (65 also) who could not travel to Putnam.
