Sr. Rose Gauthier, DHS and retired teacher, recently received the Kindness Recognition Award from the Armsmear Complex where she resides with 50 other people in Hartford, Connecticut.
This award is offered each trimester per year to underscore the importance of kindness and caring for others in everyday situations. The residents themselves nominate those individuals they believe worthy of this award and provide clear and specific examples of how the nominee lives and demonstrates kindness and caring daily.
The certificate was awarded at a special gathering on site. When Rose expressed her surprise the award committee representative replied very simply that Rose had no idea of the number of lives she has touched since her arrival at Armsmear. Our recipient’s response was silence as she became more convinced of the importance of being who we are and sharing that with others instead of always focusing on what we do for them.
Rose also continues to use her teaching skills as she volunteers at Jubilee House, working with immigrants and refugees in an ESL (English as a Second Language) program and she has brought along two other volunteer teachers from Armsmear to lend a helping hand.
Congratulations, Sr. Rose. May the Spirit of Kindness and Caring continue to guide you as you open your heart and arms to others.
