On June 11th the Rotary Club of the greater Putnam region gave the Daughters of the Holy Spirit $2000.00 to assist the JEANNETTE HORBAITA CENTER FOR WOMEN in Cameroon, Africa.
The donation was the second installment on a $4000.00 pledge made by the organization in 2018.
The HORBAITA CENTER is a school established by the DHS to educate, train and empower young women so they might have a brighter future with skills necessary to earn a living and care for themselves and their families. There are currently 85 women enrolled in the 3 year program. The objective is to raise the enrollment to 100.
The monies received help defray tuition costs and to purchase equipment, such as computers and sewing machines, that is needed for the program to run smoothly and efficiently.
Dr Françoise G. Gauthier, our director of development, accepted the check in the name of the Province and of the Center and expressed the Sisters’ gratitude and offered background information and details of progress and growth of the Center to the large group in attendance at this luncheon.
The Daughters are most grateful for this donation that responds so well to the charism that calls each of us to reach out to others in need in the name of the Lord. A special note of thanks to Mrs. Karen Osbrey who initially presented this request for assistance to her Rotary group.
