The Interfaith Council of Putnam held their annual celebration this year at the new DHS Administrative Offices facility on Pomfret Street. There was a wonderful gathering of people of all ages and from various faith communities who came together to pray, sing and enjoy fellowship in honor of this special day.
All were welcomed by Sr. Bonnie Morrow who opened the afternoon with prayer and words of peace.
From then on there were many others who prayed for peace, kindness, and understanding, read Scripture and poetry.
Some spoke in their own faith language, and others in English, but it didn’t seem to matter … the message rang true … PEACE is possible if we work and pray together. Interspersed throughout the afternoon were songs that inspired everyone to join in with praise and fun!
At the conclusion of the sharing, the Peace Pole, that was front and center, was explained and will be a reminder for all of us that regardless of how we pronounce it, PEACE must be celebrated with every voice in every place.
The afternoon concluded with sharing refreshments and exchanging personal experiences of peace on a one to one or small cluster level. Everyone left the Center renewed in their commitment to living peace every moment of each day wherever and with whomever they may be…..let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with ME.
