Time has flown; we have now arrived at the mid-point of Lent. In our reflection at the beginning of Lent we were called to live “Lent in the love of God” which in turn makes us our Redeemer’s “light bearers”. Since then the whole world has been turned upside down and inside out thanks to the corona virus. We here in Connecticut have just begun with stringent restrictions. How have we thus far lived these? How will we live these as we continue in the crisis? As disastrous as this virus is, it gives us an opportunity for the remainder of Lent to live the life of being God’s “light bearers”.
The second reading for the fourth week of Lent continues to call us to be “light bearers”.
“You were once darkness but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth.” (Eph:5:8-10) Without access to the usual outlets for stress such as sports, entertainment, going out to eat…how do we act with those we may be cooped up with? How do we deal with the fears and uncertainties of this time? Many of us now have more free time on our hands. As we approach Holy Week, perhaps we can use some of that time to be with our redeeming Savior to follow and remember his ultimate sacrifice. Let us continue walking this route with patience, understanding, and forgiveness while ringing the love of God to those with whom we have contact to become God’s “light bearers”.
