35 years ago the first Associates of the DHS in the USA made their first covenants expressing their desire to live the charism of the Congregation and to share it with as many others as possible in their daily lives.

Membership has grown, and on December 10th a large delegation of Associates, Consecrated Seculars and Apostolic Religious gathered at the DHS Administrative Center in Putnam to reminisce, to laud and to celebrate this special anniversary.

An appropriate liturgy featuring the Call and the Response to and by the Associates was the highlight of the festivities. Long-time friend of the Daughters and Putnam native Rev. Ed Dempsey, honored the group as celebrant and homilist. Sr Michèle Bisaillon, USA Team Leader, greeted and welcomed the audience while Dr. Diane Summa, who was a member of the first group of Associates to pronounce a Covenant, shared a brief history of the movement in New England. Mass readings were offered by Dr. Summa and Deborah Raymond.

Modern Zoom technology allowed guests from England and California to join the proud moment virtually.

The choice of songs such as “The Summons” and “Companions on the Journey” clearly emphasized the theme of the Associates’ commitment to the Spirit’s Call and their commitment to live it with others.

A vast array of finger foods was enjoyed by one and all as the anniversary celebration grew louder, more enthusiastic and as long time bonds were reaffirmed and strengthened. Now it is on to tomorrow and to the 40th anniversary with the hope and trust that many new members will join our ranks.

Congratulations to our Associates. Thank you for your commitment and may the Spirit of New Life be with you now and into the future as together you make our world a much better place for humankind and all of Creation.
