OUR COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE

Our DHS Spiritual Family in the USA is strongly committed to justice at all levels within our society and our Church.  We implement this commitment by participating on committees, by declaring and publicly supporting corporate stances for or against issues related to justice/non-violence, and by developing awareness of the precarious situation of Mother Earth and of every person’s responsibility to care for her.

KEY COMMITTEES:

  • JUSTICE AND NON-VIOLENCE COMMITTEE is composed of Sisters and Associates and meets 6 times per year to discuss and develop a plan of action on issues impacting the world and related to the DHS charism/mission. Some of the important issues we support are Fair Trade practices and Immigration Reform and equal rights and opportunities for all.  We oppose such matters as the death penalty, human trafficking. the School of the Americas and all forms of torture and violence.
  • CREATION COMMITTEE is composed of Sisters and Consecrated Seculars and meets at least 4 times per year or as critical situations develop. Our purpose is to encourage all who believe in the presence of the Spirit in all of creation to accept responsibility for protecting, defending and healing any part of God’s creation that is in any way threatened. Part of our task is to assure a deeper understanding of the ways in which all human beings can work together to provide a cleaner environment and safe water for all people on earth.  We serve as a resource for the Province as we share the latest publications on such topics as climate change and smart recycling.  We encourage collaboration with similar groups at local, national and international levels.
